Editing by Listening

Many writers recommend reading your manuscript aloud. It is almost a necessity that it be one of those rounds in editing. Your ears are able to pick out missing words or phrases that do not sound right. In a writers’ group, it is beneficial to read your piece. Most likely you will pick out things as you read it to yourself and then again as you read it to the group.

The latest version of Microsoft Word has an option to read your text aloud.

If you do not have that option, there are apps and websites that will also do text to speech. Natural Readers.com is one of those sites. While it is not truly a natural voice, it is better than most computer generated voices. It has setting for type of voice and rate of speech.

A quick Google search will give you even more reasons your work in progress needs to be heard out loud at least once in the revision process?
